FIGHTING HOMELESNESS

These photos were taken in November 2007 at a Leadership Conference for Faith Leaders in the metro area.  The theme was HEAR MY VOICE. Faith Leaders were invited to hear the voice of the poor and homeless in our community. Restoration Ministry and Birmingham Metropolitan Services for the Homeless were also participating sponsors.

UNITY BREAKFAST

These photos were taken at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast held on Jan. 17, 2001, at the BJCC. The 2011 Diversity Award recipient is Odessa Woolfolk (pictured on right), a local educator and activist. Ms. Woolfolk is one of the founders of Leadership Birmingham and has played a strong role in creating and sustaining the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. The Diversity Award, established by the Birmingham Metro Diversity Coalition in 2007, acknowledges and honors the efforts of individuals in the Metro Birmingham community who strive to promote an understanding and appreciation of diversity. Rev. Joseph Walker (pictured in both photos), co-chair of the BMDC, served as the chair of this year's breakfast.
