A special thanks

A big thank you to those who helped plan, sponsor, or took part in our inaugural MLK Unity Walk on January 15, 2011, at Railroad Park. We had a great turnout. Over 200 people showed up before the walk ended at noon to help us celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The MLK Unity Walk , which was themed "Freeing the Past to Make Room for Progress", was all about bringing the community together and raising awareness of our need to build an inclusive community that honors and welcomes diversity.

Our corporate sponsors who helped make the event possible were Royal Cup Coffee, Coca-Cola, and Eastview Healthcare Center. Now, we turn our thoughts forward to having an even bigger turnout for next year's MLK Unity Walk !

We would also like to thank Gregory Townsend, who serves on the board of the Birmingham Metro Diversity Coalition, for his leadership in launching this unity walk campaign.
